Terrorfish - Dangerously Delicious Dalaran fishing daily

    The Dangerously Delicious fishing daily is to fish up 10 Terrorfish from the waters in Wintergrasp. It took me a total of 20 casts, with the Terrorfish in the loot with other fish (just like Pygmy Suckerfish). Total loot was as follows:
    * 10 Terrorfish
    * 9 Musselback Sculpin
    * 7 Nettlefish
    * 3 Glacial Salmon
    * 1 Giant Darkwater Clam = 4 Succulent Clam Meat & 1 Northsea Pearl

    The Terrorfish apparently gets its name because it's "So good it's scary!" (Gotta love the quotes on some items!)

    Loot from the Bag of Fishing Treasures was:
    * 9 gold, 81 silver, 93 copper
    * 3 Elixir of Water Walking
    * 2 Worthless Piece of Violet Glass ("This thing smells like booze.")

    If you're new to Wintergrasp (i.e. you don't PvP much) your best bet for reasonably safe fishing is near your flight points and the east/west workshops. Alliance rez and fly in at the Eastspark shop, and Horde on the equivalent west side. The safest time to fly in is around 30 minutes after a battle concludes and 30 minutes before the next begins, as most folks don't hang around Wintergrasp when there's not a battle imminent.

    A suggestion to spread amongst fellow anglers in this PvP zone: regardless of faction, would anyone consider equipping a fishing pole and being at the water a sign of "truce" - i.e. don't needlessly gank other anglers as long as it's obvious you're fishing?

    For what it's worth my personal policy is that I won't attack anyone gathering or fishing (I'm on Arathor US) unless they initiate...

    Any other resource gathering, yes.

    That titanium node might better suit an alliance member...or hell, even one of my guildies.

    Fishing is something everyone can do, and there is no wait on spawn (except on pools, but even then, meh).

    Doesn't matter though, generally a horde fisherman (opposing faction) will stop fishing and equip his weapon as soon as he sees an ally running around...generally they'll attack first anyway, so I'll just go up next to them, sit down, cast a line and wait to switch weapons...

    It's fairly uncommon for an opposing faction fisherman to not attack me.

    I don't play WG very often. I do the daily once in a while when I want some honor for a specific piece of gear, but by no means do I go every day. I try to make it once a week so I can hit VoA (or whatever is there now), but that doesn't always happen either.

    I can understand that - though as a tailor/enchanter, the titanium or saronite node is pretty much decoration for me to look at while fishing :) so I figure why bother attacking since I can't use it. If a guildie is on who has mining, then I'd reconsider for sure. Typically, I try to fish in out of the way spots, though I find in WG right next to the workshop is a great pool and no mobs.

    For the *extremely* paranoid, you could always treat it like a Ironjaw/Crafty run and do all the stealth-fishing tricks: do it at 4 AM, turn off huge titles, /sleep, etc.

    The daily quests and achievements associated with Wintergrasp give a lot of incentive to kill enemy players just for the sake of killing them, so players who might otherwise have ignored a harmless fisher might well be more aggressive there. Why wouldn't they be, if you're the last person they need for [Wintergrasp Ranger]? Though considering the only time I've done this daily was, in fact, at 4 AM, I can't say I've done much study on this yet.

    I wonder how long it will be until I hear people yelling "Stop fishing out there, you're just giving them Tenacity!"

    Just so everyone knows, it is possible to fish in Wintergrasp while STANDING in Icemist village (thus not pvp flagged). It took a few to find a good spot, but if you're standing at 24.0,35.0 on the grey rock there, your cast will land inside wintergrasp almost every time!!! Easy and safe for the non-pvpers among us!

    Interesting, Glover.

    There are quite a few spots along the top of the waterfall, where you can be standing in Dragonblight, while your bobber is landing in Wintergrasp. And of course catches are based on where the bobber lands, not where you are standing. For those on PvP realms, this doesn't make much difference: You still need to be standing on the Wintergrasp plateau - you cannot fish from the lakes below Wintergrasp. But for PvE realms it removes the possibility of being attacked completely.

    Perhaps, in a future patch, more of the water will suddenly freeze over?

    As I learned from my week long hunt of Ironjaw, the Anglers of Azeroth tend to have an understanding of each other. As stated before, 30 minutes before/after is always a good time. I've been able to fish among the Alliance without having any trouble- after all, they don't want you to attack them either.

    This varies from person to person, server to server, but I think you should be able to do your fishing without much trouble. I've always been right in the open. If you want to feel safer, use a water walking method to get out of attack range.

Strange fishing behavior - Wintergrasp

    Haven't had a chance to test anywhere else yet, but I noticed something odd in WG today doing the daily...

    I had to stand almost IN the water for the cast to go through, if I stood even a little ways out, I got the 'didn't land in fishable water' error. I noticed a lot of people with this issue, and even standing on the little floating ice chunks didn't seem to help.

    Definitely NOT something that was there last time I was in the zone.

    Intriguing. Most confusing is that the bug is based on where you stand, not where the bobber might land.

    Added: There are a few posts in Blizzard's customer service forum, so they're aware of the problem. The solution given is to stand in the water, which isn't always possible.

    Same deal here. I went to get the ghost fish daily and none of my usual fishing spots would work. I had to step into the water to get any cast to land in "fishable water."

    i was trying to do the fishing daily to find the severed arm
    out in the frozen sea and had the same problem...

    lucky for me there was a helpful person out there
    who whispered to me to try moving around using a water walking potion
    and i was able to complete the quest.

    (this was on tuesday, have not had an issue since)

    Was fishing last night in the alterac mountains and have had considerable difficulty with 2 spots in particular.... "water too shallow" and "fishable water". Havent tried a water walking potion, but have tried every conceavable location to cast from :/

Fishing during wg battles

    Today i was fishing in wg during a battle trying to complete the terrorfish daily when a pvper sent out a message saying myself and all the other fishers needed to stop because of the numbers throwing off the tenacity buff. This got me curious, what is your approach or view of fishing during battles?

    The only time I fish during battles is when I am trying to do the daily with my two lvl 70 toons. Since I can't fly in Northrend with them yet, I use the WG portal that pops up before battles to go there with them.

    So far I've only been ganked once, and I've done that particular daily about a dozen times or so (four characters, with it showing up three times).

    I'm not a pvper either, but I don't want to screw with people who do pvp (any more than I'd want them to screw with my fishing)

    I personally think its extremely RUDE to fish during a battle. It's really not that hard to help out, then fish after the battle has been completed.

    Even without helping out, if your faction is outnumbered 2:1 by the opposing faction for the purpose of the battle, but you have that many more people fishing, then your faction has a big disadvantage.

    If you're in the zone but not fighting during the battle, then your side is at a disadvantage.

    Basically, the way the tenacity buff works is, based on the percentage more of the opposing faction, the greater the tenacity buff on the underpopulated faction. This supposedly balances the two sides, so if you have a 70% tenacity buff, that means there are 70% more of the other faction.

    On the opposite side of the coin, if the two sides are EVEN as far as numbers are concerned, but your side has 20 fishermen there, then the opposing faction will have a tenacity buff when one is not really needed.

    So in short, yes, it does imbalance the battle in favor of the opposing faction.

    If you aren't into pvp, that's all fine and good. The battles don't last long, and there is a 2 and a half hour break between them. Try to fish between battles if you can.

    As an avid fisherman AND someone who does WG at LEAST once a day (and is active otherwise in pvp as well), I can see both sides of the arguement. That being said, just play nice with your faction...

    Even as a fisherman myself, I've been known to jump on bobbers of fishermen who didn't heed the call of WG and "either fight or GTFO til the battle is over".

    Ideally, Blizzard will patch this in a future iteration so that the tenacity buff only interacts with players who have entered combat at least once during the battle. Likewise, it would be swell if fishers who were in the zone during the battle did NOT receive a Mark unless they had entered combat at least once.

'Safe' fishing spots in Wintergrasp

    I've been looking for several spots in WG and came with a top 5 spots for the horde:

    -West Workshop Graveyard (Horde control)
    -Blinked (while swimming) into iceberg (Mage only, biggest spot is under the central bridge on the northren side)
    -West Workshop Graveyard (Alliance control)
    -Warsong Camp (Horde control, near flightmaster)
    -On the arches under the West Bridge

    I just tried the arches under the west bridge after reading this.

    600 casts without anybody seeing me, let alone killing me. Definatly one of the safer spots to enjoy fishing without a pesky death knight smashing your face in.

    Just been in there for the first time - I tried one spot in se corner - there is a glacial lake - I was ok for quite a while hidden mostly by a tree next to the falls, then some passing DK teleported my to the spirit healer.
    I also fished next to the horde flightpoint - and fished safely until I left - although I have seen battles around this area before.

    oh - and apart from the fish feast - the fish are also great for the 425-450 grind if you want to go the small feasts route. (currently working on my 3rd chef).

    Fish near your flight point when your faction is NOT in control of Wintergrasp and the NPC quest givers - who have significantly more health than you do - will be around. If you run into trouble, run towards the flight point and let the NPCs beat on the opposing faction member.

    Fished at the top of the waterfall (Scholazar Basin border) for Fishing daily. Not fished the area extensively but did venture further into the zone only to be sprung by an Alliance guy hiding in the water after aggroing a mob. Needless to say I had rez sickness so he didnt benefit from my kill ;P

    Anyone on a PvP server understands the fallacy of thinking they were in a "safe" fishing spot.

    As an alliance character, I've been attacked while fishing for the croc in Stormwind (my pvp flag timer was still at 4 mins, had just come in the portal from shatt after accepting the quest).

    Wintergrasp is just another place to fish. Fishing in Wintergrasp is slightly less troublesome (when a battle for wintergrasp is not ongoing) than fishing in Sholozar Basin or the lake in Dragonblight.

    Fortunately the unwritten 'If you're fishing, you're offlimits' rule seems to be working on my server for WG fishing.
    I was happily standing at Glacial falls for the Terrorfish alongside 3 horde anglers the other evening, and emotes, rather than blows were exchanged.
    Don't know if it helps that myself and one of the Horde were sporting the Salty title, but I /bowed and /smiled graciously when I left, pleased to have completed the daily unhindered :)
    Hope it keeps up like this between our noble angling community :)

End WG Fishing

    the botters are getting out of control, killing any satisfaction from the time and effort one might hope for from fishing. The only way to keep up with them is the boring act of of non pool fishing with no reward besides a scant amount of gold. I hope they end this soon.......

    Ending Botters would be better :) I like the WG fishing, it would be a shame if it went, it adds a bit spice to a fishing trip. I guess it’s like that all the time for those on a PvP server, but for me on a normal server, it’s a fun distraction. Maybe switching WG to pool fishing would improve the situation, they could add some mixed fish pools?

    I love the fishing in WG...it gives all the fish needed for the Fish Feast, along with the normal junk.

    One simple 3 minute flight from Dalaran and I am right at the Alliance FP, and 10 seconds from fishing to get the daily completed. It save me the trouble of having to fly all around Northrend to seperate sights to gather the fish needed.

    In plain terms, it is the simplest and easiest (imho) fishing locale in WoLK.

    Botters are the normal of any pvp area...remember back in the day pre-BC. If you had 275+ fishing EPL was impossible. Now it is simple, the botters have just moved to where the easy stuff is. Real life scenario, you want the best reward fro the least amount of work... hence the botters.

Safe fishing spot in Wintergrasp

    I've heard rumors that there is a spot you can fish in Wintergrasp without being flagged?

    I'm a PvE server carebear who likes to make Fish Feasts for her raid team and it would be nice to be able to fish in peace :)

    The trick is to sit in Dragonblight (on the ledge on the southern side of Wintergrasp), but cast so that your bobber lands in Wintergrasp. Catch is based on where the bobbers lands. PvP flag is based on where you are.

    (Some people might view this as an exploit, I'm not sure. All my experiences are on PvP realms, so it makes no difference.)

    I did test this, because on my PvE server, we have some unfriendly Horde who like to farm honor whilst we try to farm fish :)

    Above the refugee camp in Dragonblight, it is easily possible to stand on the ledge and fish effectively in Wintergrasp - toward the right side of the shelf is a "V" shape cut into it, bringing the water easily close enough for comfortable fishing.

    Note, if you are positioning yourself initially, you may inadvertently move too far forward (and thus move into Wintergrasp zone), this will flag you for 5 minutes, simply shuffle backwards until mini-map reads Dragonblight, and your flag will wear off in 5 minutes.

    EDIT: Don't go AFK in this spot (unless you mount your flyer) - there is a cyclone mob that sometimes shares the same space as this fishing ledge, and apparently likes to eat fisherpeople up. If you die here, your only option is a Spirit Healer - you get ported to graveyard at Stars Rest, with no way to climb and retrieve your corpse :(

Wintergrasp fishing- Giant Darkwater Clam

    Wintergrasp fishing is great! fished for an hour and got enough fish for almost two stacks of fish feast! The only things in the pools are the fish feast fishies, and the giant darkwater clam.... fished up 2-4 per 10 min bobber, and the dropped 1-3 meats per clam, plus 8 northrend pearls and a sirens tear.... just dont fish for 30 min or so on either side of battle time and you will be far more likely to be left alone.... fishing right by your FP is smart, usually clear and it is close to a graveyard, just in case....
