[General] Comment on (Almost) Anything

    Over the new year I've added some new features to El's Anglin' (and Professions). Most obvious are the drop down menus (thanks mj for the suggestion) and the ability to comment on (almost) anything.

    Just like the Fish Finder, if you tag a forum topic with the title of a page, or use that title as the topic title, a summary of the topic will eventually appear at the bottom of that page. Changes will take up to 10 minutes to transfer from the forum to other pages.

    There are a few exceptions (for example, you cannot comment on the front page). If there is a small box at the bottom of the page inviting comments, then feel free to tag/title.

    The idea seemed to work reasonably well on the Fish Finder, so I thought I'd expand it to every other page. Precisely what information you get is a bit chaotic, but even the best comment systems (Wowhead is a good example) never quite work perfectly. And tagging forum topics allows the same discussion to appear on several pages, if it covers several topics.

    Suggestions/improvements are always welcome. Some take forever, but some get implemented quite quickly.

    A news or page for Fishing 'Bots problem(Cancel)

    Taiwan WoW there are too many Fishing 'Bots. In 3.0.3, Pygmy Suckerfish OLNY 20G/per stack(20). I am find a lot of people using Fishing 'Bots, and reporting to the GM. Unfortunately, they do not deal with this problem.

    I want WoW fishing more fun. Hard-working fisherman, often unable to obtain a reasonable return.
    I will write a guide, How to test whether the Fishing 'Bots.
    I hope you will write a guide, Then two become one!
    I also hope that those fluent in Language Common and Language Orcish, to help create the perfect Anti-FishBot guide.

    To respond to the first 3:

    1. El's Anglin' is a guide to fishing not cooking, so I don't intend to write a cooking-only guide here. I have added a list of all fish-based dishes - Cooking Skill. There are lots of options. If you aren't catching the fish yourself, it is very hard to say what the best options will be. If you are catching the fish, then the regular Fishing and Cooking 1-450 Alliance can be used - you will just catch the fish you need faster!
    2. El's Anglin' is a guide to fishing and not to anglers that fish. A lot of things posted here are very interesting, and are very welcome on the forums. But they don't fit into a factual guide.
    3. 'Bots are against WoW's terms of service, so will not be covered here in any detail, however good the intention (see Automation). More generally, this isn't a "complaint website": Again, I'm happy to host discussion in the forums, but it doesn't belong in a fishing guide.

    In short, it's a guide to fishing. Very focused. Very specific editorial policy.

    I could, I should, do a lot more for the community. I always feel bad that I don't. Unfortunately, it's become a personal choice between doing lots of things badly, or (I hope) one thing well. I just don't have the time to do (and more importantly maintain) everything.

    Thanks for taking the time to write down the ideas. I don't want to stop people making suggestions, because a lot of suggestions are useful. I just felt the need to explain why not everything we'd like to see will actually happen.

    8. I don't understand what you mean by that. I thought "angler" and "fisher(wo)man" were pretty much synonymous.

    Druegar - I mean it's not about you and I and everyone else here. It's about the act of fishing.

    A lot of WoW websites are actually a huge forum with a little guide stickied somewhere. This is primarily a guide, with a little forum attached at the end.

    In Taiwan WoW, many players Fishing and achievements began. Some players got fishing skill 400+, but they still buy my Cooking 1-400 package 1000G+.....(fish, recipe and guide). So i thank they most want Cooking faster guide(Horde, Alliance). But may be in the English server, there are different cases.

    I will add Cooking and fishing 1-450 in chinese. Thank you, el.

    You don't make a LOT of profit, on the cooking guide, Mightfish.

    Calculating individual fish value makes it roughly 765,5G. 240G more than you'd get from selling individual fish...

    BUT! As a counterpart, you get rid of a lot of fish at once + you get to sell a bit of everything, for even more money than they'd sell for individually.

    Props to you on that one.
