[Fishing] Poll: What level were you when you actively started fishing?

    Voting booth

First thing you did? Didn't even bother to learn until your second character was 80?

I'm interested in when you actively started fishing - not just train fishing. I suspect some people will train it at level 5, catch 2 fish, and then forget about it until much later.

I started to actively fish after i had the realization that fishing could be profitable. As an alchemist and playing during classic WoW (several months before The Burning Crusade was released), I figured out that purchasing Stonescale Eels in the AH was silly and that it would be a better investment to be able to fish them up myself. (I remember that the other "Alchemy Fish" of Firefin Snapper & Oily Blackmouth weren't really that useful / profitable ...) I remember spending a lot of time in Azshara...

Another thing to remember is that in Classic WoW, if you wanted to level cooking, you had to fish (or purchase fish in the AH).

I stayed away from fishing at first, because I was under the misconception that it was some minigame that required fast reflexes. So I leveled my hunter (!) without fishing past level 50. What convinced me to give it a try? When they introduced fishing minipets! :) Now I level it on all my alts as they go along.

    My main is an alchemist/herbalist.

I started fishing early (while originally farming stanglekelp ... which allowed me to make the little water breathing potions ... which allowed me to farm more stranglekelp LOL ) when I figured out how to do it. Later, I really wanted stonescale eels for my superior defense potions - which have been a pretty consistent selling item on my server.

Since then, I train all my alts to fish. It provides my fish-banker with a continuing source of income ... which she sends to me. :)

First character (Druid), level 10ish, just as soon as I discovered Rut'theran.

All of my alts fish and have at least a Big Iron Fishing Pole. The current alt I'm leveling is now at 49 and has had a Giant Sewer Rat following her around since about level 35. I did corpse running to the Bay of Storms and in Outlands to keep my cooking up at the same time. :)

I startet fishing from the start with my first character. It helped me with the cooking skill and got some fish for the char from my friend who could use them for alchemy. Leveling as an Alliance char you have lot of time to wait for ships, so there was always an opportunity to fish, while waiting.

All my characters (Alli and Horde) startet fishing with the first levels and have their skill maxed before they reach max. level. I always did the fishing quests at Shattrath and now at Dalaran. Gives you nice Items, some Gold and even reputation.

I'm trying to make the achievments for fishing, but without a hurry. Since I play 9 Chars between level 70 and 80, there is so much to do.

I hope, that someday I catch the Turtle and maybe another Dr. Pinchy, who gives me the Pet. (Got two without it).

Since my original class in both the open beta and right at launch was Hunter, I started fishing as soon as I reached Darnassus. Grabbed a pole and hit that pond just south of the main gates until 50 skill, and then hit up the waters in the city proper for a bit as well. It was great food for my boar, and also a good source of income. Wasn't too long before all the selling prices of raw fish were slashed to 10% and greens stopped getting fished up though, thanks to all the bots. I still kept up mine though, just for the cooking skill and free pet food. Didn't actually reach 300 until I was 60; hovered around 250 for a long time since I didn't need higher skill until ZG rolled around.

i trained fishing at level 5, then rarely did some fishing apart from quests. everything changed when i helped some lowlevel player getting through stranglethorn (i was a 30-40ish night elf hunter), because he or she wanted to go to the barrens to do some deviate-fishing. i was very impressed with the fun those fish could bring.
from then on, my leveling progression slowed down by much because i repeatedly went to wailing caverns in order to refill my deviate fish stock. i remember farming tons of zhevras, giraffes and more, because i wanted the cooking recipe badly. finally i found it at 60 (yeah, early/mid-classic back then) for 2 gold in the AH. it was very cheap, even for back then.

    (apologies for my terribad english)

On my first character I trained fishing at level 5 and found myself sitting by Stonebull Lake at night with the moon reflecting on the water and I was hooked. The scene was beautiful, catching fish was fun and best of all there were no mosquitoes. I've been an avid fisher-orc ever since.

I started fishing at 70 on my second character. I'd realized how expensive raiding was and wanted to keep my costs as low as possible and maybe make a little extra gold, so I leveled cooking and fishing at the same time (courtesy of this site).

Then when they introduced the minipet interface change... I had a whole new reason to love fishing!

I started fishing at level 18ish, when a recipe for Savory Deviate Delight dropped from a mob (sold for 30g a stack at that time). I became familiar with Wailing Caverns.
