[Fishing] Turtle, in how many catches did you (not) get it?

    About open water. I have ~86.000 casts in Northrend in open water for last 6 months, no turtle. So, I think, you must catch one in pools only.
    Now I have ~300 casts in pools (Grizly Hill). No turtle. From articles in this topic, I think, that probability ~1/3000.

    I caught himm last night, at skill lvl 283, just leveling my skill when i caught a sea turtle, didnt think to much of it, didnt even check the ach. Guild started goin crazy, congradulating me, so i looked, and it was a mount, pretty cool...GL all, was on a borean man of war pool right there by the frozen elementals in BT.

    Now for all you folks saying... omg! I have a druid who was my main in TBC, who is my "Fisherman". I have literally spend hours upon hours fishing with him trying to get those with no luck. Just happened to be on my priest and trying out the new 3.3 fishing rules and got lucky. Its just a luck thing!

    8929 fish still no mount. Idk what is going on. I always see people with the mount at 3k fist or less. I will post back as i fish more.

    Edit 9496 fish caught. still no mount. I'm starting to wonder when the pools spawns does it already have the sea turtle in it. Kinda like how mobs have a predetermined item drop on them. Just have to get lucky and hit the right pool. Talking to a gm about this now :( will keep this updated.

    Blah... over 9k casts. And I see myself somewhat dedicated. I have every fishing achievement there is to get (save for turtle and Master Angler of... ), but those two seem to be eluding me to no end.

    I cought like 2900 fish and other stuff and then I got it in Howling :D

    Now I'm going for the Salty title.

    I was just gonna log out yesterday, and decided to just take a few casts in the underbelly and on the 3rd cast I got the gian sewer rat!

    2089 fish caught in Northrend pools, finally got the little-guy today as a last minute try before heading off to work! Keep on trying, you'll get him eventually! And it's definitely possible to do this at low levels. I'm level 21 and start out with 1 fishing. I'm now almost to Grand Master. XD

    Sandiegoeve, they just tell you that, you can catch 10000 fish and still not get the mount.

    7419 catch and no turtle

    Apologies right off the bat for my luck, it seems like i stole it from a bunch of you guys.

    I got mine while I was flying round northrend for the "Northrend Angler" achievement with a friend. We finished on Glassfin minnow schools and stayed there for a few mins chatting and fishing and BAM there was my turtle.

    I now expect to have horrendous luck for a very long LONG time though as in the last 3 weeks I have had the following

    One that didn't get away
    Sea Turtle
    Mr Pinchy (2nd wish)
    Zulian Tiger drop
    STV Tourney win (2nd try)
    Green Proto Drake for my alt

    There is no way this can continue at all.

    On my first toon I was trying for the Sea Turtle and had countless nonconsecutive hours spent trying specifically for the mount.

    Finally I gave up and figured: "it's really not worth it anyway."

    Then one day I was doing the quest, I think it was called: "First to your Aid!" The old version of "Disarmed!" I got the Sea Turtle unexpectedly while fishing the Monsterbellies.

    I wish more of the fishing dailies had you fishing from pools. I think currently the only one left is "Ghostfish Mystery" - and fishing from pools for this one is optional and difficult when the area is busy.

    Ohmygosh, I just got my sea turtle! I had been reading the site and decided to spend a little time levelling fishing on my 72 priest, who had a skill of 5, no fish finding and no Northrend flying mount. The basic beginner pole--I didn't even have enough skill to use the nightcrawlers in my bag. So I went to Unupe, levitated and ran out to the bergs out there, to fish in whatever schools where I could catch something other than vendor trash. I went out strictly to level up and maybe get some pygmies for my alch, but caught the turtle just as I developed skill 48! I'm boggled! I logged out right in the saddle in the middle of Dalaran.

    Thanks for letting me know it was even possible!

    I caught it in about 3k catches. The first 1k catches were spent wasting time in the Frozen Sea; bad idea. The next 1k, I went to Howling Fjord and caught literally 12 Dark Herrings; still no turtle. I stopped fishing and gave up. I fished a bit in Grizzly Hills—no luck. THEN, one day I was feeling really lucky. I hit up Borean Tundra and fished in the lake north of Warsong Hold. After 10 catches I caught the turtle. So I would say keep fishing in Borean Tundra.

    It took me 4649 Northrend pool catches. I caught it in the Blue Sky Logging Grounds in Grizzly Hills while fishing for Glacial Salmon.

    I actually caught the Sea Turtle, Old Crafty, and the One that Didn't Get Away in the same day.

    Sea Turtle took around 300 casts.

    Old Crafty took around 15 casts.

    One that Didn't Get Away took around 400 casts.

    Unfortunately, I have never even seen a Blackfin Shark and get 40 tastyfish just as a winner is announced almost everytime. Hard to convince people to help you fish the tournament when so many have quit to wait for the expansion.

    I never thought I would do well at the tourney. But on my first attempt (not the first cast mind you) I was able to get the shark and the tourney. I went up the river in Grizzly Hills. Not much competition there. With 6 schools I caught the shark. A quick port and frantic run later the tourney was locked. You can do it!
