Northrend Pools

90% of the catch from each of Northrend's pools will be a named fish. There is also a chance of catching Crystallized Water and Reinforced Crate. There no pools that contain only Crystallized Water or crates.

About 2 out of every 3 Northrend pool catches will have a bonus Pygmy Suckerfish attached to the main catch (except Glassfin Minnow School, where the chance is lower).

Pools appear at a fixed set of possible "nodes" within each zone. Not all these points will have a pool at any one time, as discussed in the Pool Spawning section. In most zones, each possible spawning location may contain any of the pool types that appear in the area. For example, a node on the coast of Hillsbrad Foothills may contain a Firefin Snapper School, Oily Blackmouth School, or Schooner Wreckage Pool. Coastal and inland pools are completely separate. So inland pools in Hillsbrad Foothills will only ever contain School of Sagefish or Floating Wreckage Pools.

Wreckage pools may appear instead of any other pool in Azeroth, except for Muddy Churning Water, Patch of Elemental Water, School of Tastyfish and School of Red Snapper. The pool name, and type of trunk caught, depends on the area the pool is found in.

Several unusual pools are not shown in the table above. For example, pools called "School of Red Snapper" can be found in Ammen Ford, Azuremyst Isle. These pools cannot be fished conventionally. See the Unusual Pools section for further details.

Now you know where to look to find pools, it is useful to know why those pools might not be there when you try and fish them.

Looks interesting, Mightfish. Unfortunately, the download gives a 403 Forbidden error at the moment.

  3. Mightfish, January 2010:

    I have fix this error.

  1. Balazar, January 2010:

I note the link takes to you a web page, and the download link on the web page is to a .rar file. Perhaps I'm a tad bit paranoid, but I would prefer a straight up image file.

    Updated to version 1.1 !

  4. Christhina, February 2010:

This is actually very handy, and a good record to show new anglers (and handy for us older, more forgetful types like me) :)

Mightfish - I wonder only one thing - the links above appear to take me to the same map that is the entire continent of Northrend, and this map is populated with fishing pools where they spawn in each zone.

Am I missing a reason for the separate links? The map always seems to open "focussed" on Borean Tundra (though I can scroll easily enough to the other zones, of course) - I'm just hoping I'm not missing something, hence I thought I'd ask :)

Either way, this is well done, and thank you for sharing your hard work with us all :)

Overlaid Pools?

  1. hollyd58, July 2008:

I was fishing the Booty Bay coast and had several instances with both Oilyblackmouth and Firefin pools in the same place. The minimap labeled the @ as both. In one case there were two Firefin pools in the same spot.

Is this new or have I not noticed it before? It sure is nice. Gives more fish from one location.

  2. el, July 2008:

It is rare, but has been happening for several years in Stranglethorn Vale. It is more obvious now with pool tracking (Find Fish).
