Leveling Fishing in 3.0.3

  1. el, November 2008:

If anyone is leveling fishing at the moment, I'd love to know how many catches skill-ups are taking. This report suggests 18 catches from 299 to 300, and at least 10 catches from 298 to 299. That's rather extreme.

  2. Prishe, November 2008:

Since I saw this post, I figured I would keep track of my fishing on my 3rd fisher.

I leveled up from 347-356 today and 8 of those levels were 10 catches a piece. 2 levels were 11 catches.

  3. Marlburo, November 2008:

A little off topic but any insight on the number of casts to go from 375-? I have the gear to start fishing in the new city as soon as I can get there, just wondering looking at the coin drop rates, etc how fast I will be able to get salty title.

In the final beta version, about 1,000 catches form 375 to 450. But as this topic demonstrates, we're really not going to know for sure until Thursday...

  2. Cozmic, November 2008:

Whats the drop rate on the coins? There's about about 15 of all 3 types if I remember correctly.

  3. el, November 2008:

All about coins. If you'd like to discuss coins, please do so in a new topic. Thank you.

Lvl 35?

  1. yazevo, November 2008:

if that the only lvl reg to get 450 fishing skill?

  2. el, November 2008:

If you train in Northrend, there is no level requirement listed for Master or Grand Master. So you just need to complete the Artisan quest, which requires level 35.

Just what i wanted to know. Thanks for the response and such a sweet site el!

Not digging the new guides..

  1. Astrelle, April 2009:

I don't really like the new guides, particularly the fishing/cooking one. One of the things I liked about the guide was it told us were all the recipes are... no more. There seem to be a lot of recipes not told where they are (atleast in the horde guide.)

And why go to Plaguelands? Ferelas doesn't have the day/night fishes anymore? Lowbee anglers certainly can't fish there. I guess the guides are more for people that are 80.

  2. el, April 2009:

    Thanks for the comment, Astrelle.

The source of all the recipes used should be shown, but I'll add a single reference list.

The guide is intended for power-leveling, so is optimised to reduce travel time. Hence the Horde guide spends a lot of time visiting a few zones very close to the Undercity.

But I know that it is used at lower level, so try to find a method that is still useful. This has become much harder to write with patch 3.1, because the places fish can be caught still scale up with level, yet only level 10 is required to catch and cook (almost) everything.

Feralas certainly can be used as an alternative to the Western Plaguelands, but it isn't terribly suitable for those at low level. I guess mid-level Horde have a specific problem getting through the Bulwark. The Alliance guide gives the option of traveling up from Hillsbrad Foothills, which is safe at about level 20+, so I'll add that to the low-level suggestions.

Now the Eastern Plaguelands are a real problem at low level, but so is ever similar zone. For example, the only part of Feralas with the same fish is Jademir Lake, which is surrounded by level 60-ish elites. I think the best suggestion for low-level Horde is to swim up to the Bay of Storms in Azshara.

Any other thoughts from others that have tried using the leveling guides?
